Noods radio – UK Rap 3 week Residency
Bristols Noods radio has asked Trevor to host 3 shows for to celebrate their 10th anniversary, each will showcase a different time period of seminal & embryonic UK Rap, starting in 1979 finishing in 1985.
“Contrary to the misinformed UK rap didn’t start with Dizzy Rascal, The Streets & Stormzy
Neither was it always an inferior emulation of its US counterparts. The UK took musical influences from diverse sources inspired by the countries uniquely diverse spectrum of international cultures, embryonic influential moments that transformed into multiple worldwide musical phenomenons, hugely successful genres that could only of been forged in the UK.
The evolution of rap in the UK is a complex and fascinating story, many of its first commercial releases might of been novelties or pop hit records but a parallel strong & passionate underground scene developed via events, clubs, magazines and nationwide specialist Rap radio shows, Hip Hop in the UK was a transformative colour blind unifying force.
Although much of it was ignored outside of the UK, Early British rap from across all regions of the country created many landmark timeless anthems that still sound as fresh and urgent today as they did when first released, equally as relevant as seminal revered releases from the same era across the pond, they deserve more respect and attention”.
Demise of Love
Daniel Avery, Ghost Culture and Working Men’s Club’s Syd Minsky Sergeant combine for new project Demise Of Love.
The three have known one another for some time now – Daniel Avery and Ghost Culture previously worked in a record shop together, and have worked frequently in the past. Mutual fans of Syd Minsky Sergeant‘s work, the trio entered the studio together last year to focus on new ideas.
The group’s ethos quickly coalesced, taking the music in a different path to their prior work. A self-titled EP lands on May 30th via Domino, with Daniel Avery terming it: “Three distinct sonic personalities coming together to create something new entirely, a search for a burning light that could only exist between the trio.”
The wide-open sessions have resulted in a four track EP, with Alan Moulder handling the final mix; Trevor Jackson, meanwhile, sculpts the artwork.

Raf Rundell – ‘Luxury’ Trevor Jackson Reproduction.
Raf Rundell’s original version of ‘Luxury’ was itself a slight detour for South London’s jauntiest singer. Utilising the talents of Warrington’s Men & The Echo, the vocal was pure early ’80s synth-pop, so arch you could almost smell the Max Factor. With that in mind, it should be no surprise that Heavenly called on the talents of Trevor Jackson, the man behind Playgroup and The Underdog, as well as a noted designer. Jackson’s connoisseurship of the ‘80s electronic greats drives his remix, as he channels Martin Rushent with a version that has its feet in the first flush of Brit-electro as well as right now. Think the rambunctious joy of Human League’s version of ‘Rock’N’Roll’, with some modern dancefloor power. A luxuriant triumph.
